A Big Canadian Hello from Cathy Cannuck!!

It's so damn cold outside I decided to visit the video store and watch my movies at home for a few weeks. So, I still had to shovel my driveway. I just thank the good Lord for the blower Santa brought the neighbours at Christmas. I was almost sure they wouldn't miss it while they were out shopping, but they came back. I shouldn't have thrown all the snow on there driveway. Anyhoo, I watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Animal. I'm not even going to comment on The Animal, so I read a book - The Bush Dyslexicon. Reading is a nice thing to do while cuddling up by a warm fire. Now, I do know that Bob was gone away for the weekend and he promised not to press charges for break and enter so's I could sit by his fire. Besides, the damages didn't go over $345 dollars...

My Big Fat Greek Wedding, now out on DVD and Video

This movie began as a low budget film without any big expectations. Tom Hanks should have known better. After all, he was invest in a Canadian girl! Nia Vardalos, raised in Winnipeg, wrote and starred in the film, which is now being made into a TV sitcom. This film was even made in Toronto! Nia was brilliant in her role as the Greek girl seeking independence and love, who falls for a pasty white boy, played by John Corbett (from Northern Exposure). This movie is right up there with Liar, Liar as one of my favourites! Nia, the cast, crew and even Tom Hanks get 5 flags.

The Bush Dyslexicon - Observations on a National Disorder, by Mark Crispin Miller

George Orwell once stated, “All propaganda is a lie, even when it’s telling the truth.” Although George W. Bush is a laughable character, his presidency is no laughing matter. The fact that he wasn’t technically voted in is even more frightening. The Bush Dyslexicon is an attempt to dissect the true nature of today’s American media empires, and how they present their fearless leader to the legions. We can thank Dubya (George W. Bush) for providing the laughs with a seemingly unending list of quotes providing us with a true gauge of his intelligence!

  • Stuff Dubya has Said -
  • "One of the common denominators I have found is that expectations rise above that which s expected." Sept 2000
  • "Laura and I really don't realize how bright our children is sometimes until we get an objective analysis." NBC, April 15, 2000
  • "Will the highways on the Internet become more few?" Jan 2000
